About Us
Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 43 in Chattanooga, Tennessee has
enjoyed a rich history since receiving its charter on August 25, 1890. The
Local has withstood many ups and downs in the labor movement. For over 117
years and still today, Local 43 has taken pride in providing a retirement
plan and healthcare for its membership. The membership continues to enjoy
the 40 hour work week its forefathers fought to bring to the working class
people.
Local 43’s standards for recruiting and training are very high. With a state
of the art training facility and the continuous changes in the piping
industry, the 1100 plus members of Local 43 are able to enhance the skills
needed to be the best in the industry. Through a collective bargaining
agreement the Local works side by side with the contractors in order to
preserve organized labor and to reach a common goal:
“To be the Best.”
Local 43 has continuously supported the Tennessee Valley in numerous ways
ranging from Chemical plants, power generation, hospitals, universities and
the states largest fresh and salt water aquarium, to name a few.
While the future is bright in the Chattanooga area, the ongoing challenge of
providing a skilled workforce for the contractors and their customers is
priority one.
We, at Local 43, work very hard today in order to build a better tomorrow.
